Say you have a store with $100 in expenses,
you have 100 items to sell, so you need $1 profit per item.
if tariffs reduce your number of items to sell to 50,
then you will need $2 per item to meet your expenses.
Of course, this is an over-simplified example, but it mimics the
problem that retailers and wholesalers will have in the face
of any attempt to "eat the tariffs",
