My guess is that this means that the family of the slain police officer at the Capitol can and should seek redress and financial repudiation of Trump, whose lies about a stolen election, by a fraud that did not exist, should be held financially liable for this grievous loss of an honorable life.

Is it me or does it seem that we're already forgetting that people and a policeman died as a result of a mob, propelled by lies, attempted to preclude the service of our established Constitutional process? If that isn't serious enough to warrant severe sanctions I have no idea what will be. Perhaps Putin might be encouraged by our lack of concern for our laws, that he might open an office in the Rayburn building or perhaps the east wing? After all... "What have we got to lose, eh?" Legislative venues are historically noted for violence, so not allowing the House or Senate to trend towards "Dodge City" has got to be a good thing. I guess Republicans are enamored of "Any Gun Can Play" type legislative debates, after all, they present arguments that very often are obverse to the truth and/or violate reason, common sense, and/or logic.
For example: Stating that planning before execution proves that execution could not have been decided later than when the plans were made. Of course, I'm paraphrasing, but their actual offerings were even more insanely irrational. Yet, presented on the floor of this august body by "honorable" elected officials who are chosen because they are the "better thinkers". Republican members have yet to demonstrate that they are better at thinking for the benefit of the nation, they are, however, better at thinking of ways to enrich themselves at the expense of everyone else save their benefactors.

The violence was caused by lies being told by what was supposed to be a credible source, a President followed by millions, given cause to feel they were cheated. Then, at that rally, they were given an idea that there was something they could do about the fraud, that could cause legislators to set things right, if only they would show them their strength. They were then told to go to the capitol building and that the President would be there with them. Nothing could have made them feel less empowered to do whatever they (and the group leadership) could do once they arrived.
