Once upon a time, a hated car dealership was besieged by well-dressed people
who came in and made conversation, asking about makes and models, which
was the better value, and such, even starting paperwork, only to find an excuse
to leave before signing anything. While other people kept calling, by phone,
and after some exchange of pleasantries, made appointments that they did not
intend to keep, flooding the business calendar. With staff tied up and phones
under a "denial of service" attack, this form of "glitter bombing" devastated the
dealership, which could not make a sale. Worse, salesmen on commission
became frustrated and some became violent, resulting in lawsuits which
further burdened the company. It was called "death by a thousand smiles!"
Hahaha.
