Sure Trump is standing in the way of others who would seek the nomination. But Mitch is no dope, nor are the presumptive challengers. My guess is that someone is working behind the scenes to deny Trump the best lawyers he'll need to handle his coming court cases. So, is it Hawley or Cruz? Or Mitch McConnell who would certainly want a more compliant/friendly person in the Presidency? Politics is, after all, a deadly game of "stab him in the back and keep on truckin'".
