Wait, just a minute, I used to go to Atlantic City
way back when it opened. Trump did more than
just overbuild. Of course, as a general rule in an
area starved for gaming places, three casinos should
not have been a problem; look no further than Las Vegas,
for example. But no, what Trump did first was he
savaged his customers with fees for parking in his
big new parking lots until customer complaints
stopped him.
His next brilliant idea was to take
away the pit boss's power to comp players. That
made the high rollers feel unappreciated, and so
they would not come back to his casinos. It's
the big money players that make the casinos
work.
People who can drop tens of thousands
to millions of dollars, not the hordes of 5 nd ten
dollar players, who don't stick around if the
place gets a reputation for being "chintzy". He
single-handedly ruined his own casinos, and there's
no denying it.
