The problem here is that because of mass shootings, the open display
of weapons can be and is sometimes terrorizing in itself even without
anything more than display. In the old west, everyone had guns and
there were not a multitude of mass shootings. Today, even though
one may have the right to openly carry, there just aren't many
people who actually do, this is because they realize that the display of
a weapon today easily frightens people. Proud Boys are using this
fact to terrorize LBGT people and others without breaking laws that
might subject them to being stopped in their efforts. So we have a
misaligned effect where the law doesn't recognize the terror that
accompanies some types of weapons displays.
