By "dangerous" she means that your way of life could be drastically changed from owning your own home and/or business to owning nothing and being imprisoned and possibly tortured or executed for the opinions you hold. Because that's the power that authoritarian governments have, only the U.S. democracy holds the governments' power in check. Once the vote goes away or is brought under government/single-party control, constraints on government vanish and government can do whatever it wants to whomever it wants. It doesn't matter whether you are a Republican or Democrat, authoritarian governments do no believe in private gun ownership for example.
