Too bad we couldn't get some other countries to help evacuate Afghanistan ahead of the takeover, but the back and forth over "stay/don't stay" probably damaged any effort to properly plan any exit.
Trump hollowed out the governments' experts, thus there just weren't enough qualified people with experience in evacuations, to plan a proper exit even if given sufficient time.
It certainly would be a good thing if we here in America would think twice before letting another Republican administration lead us into another unnecessary war without good and sufficient limits and a well defined mission. At least better defined than to "establish an unaccountable global constabulary astride the world." --(to paraphrase the "Project for the New American Century").
