Don't try to turn these shootings into an argument to let cops like Chauvin off the hook. It's really not that complex, don't kneel on people's necks and avoid positional asphyxiation, don't shoot people in the back, and especially don't shoot people for simply fleeing arrest. Nor do police have a need to carry military assault and other weapons of war in our neighborhoods. It wasn't needed to arrest Al Capone or John Gotti so yeah, police reform still needs to happen. Nobody is going after the police for making real mistakes in tight situations. They go after police when it's abundantly clear that misconduct obviously was the result of loss of life. Don't get the issues confused. Abner Louima was not threatening anyone's life!
