Breaking Down 2020 Results With Data Scientist David Shor | Morning Joe ...

I really wish they'd let go of the slogan "defund the Police" because it is enabling the anti-law and order Republicans to further their terrible plans.  Republicans like to say they are "law and order" people, when in fact what they mean is to further their ability to use the laws against the masses, especially Blacks and Hispanics.

The "defund" slogan was designed to draw attention to the problems and foment discussion and it did that but what it really means is Reform The Police and that is so popular that even some Republicans admit the Police needs to be reformed, which is exactly the point being called for.  Police were given a whole lot of power and protections because of the trust they were supposed to have.  Unfortunately, they have not lived up to expectations and have in too many instances violated the public trust.  So that it is now time to strip them of some of the power and much of the trust they once were afforded by the people.

The job of the police is to arrest suspected lawbreakers and bring them to court, not to kill people for trying to evade or resist arrest. If the only threat a dangerous person presents is to the police attempting to make an arrest, the police must back off and use another strategy to effect the arrest successfully and not create a situation where they must kill the suspect.  Clearly there are and will be times when "Bonnie and Clyde" types cannot be taken alive, while at the same time presenting a previous danger to the public such that a fatal assault is the only possible solution.
