The Russians know they will get nothing good from a Sanders win, thus they're making this claim of helping Sanders in an effort to tarnish him. Because tarnishing Sanders helps Trump. The Russians are only interested in helping Trump and because they've been caught out on it, they realize that letting it be known that they are helping anyone's campaign hurts that campaign.
