America has been very seriously damaged. The Republicans have done nothing to help restore our system of checks and balances, apparently thinking they could get their own way, and the rest of the world be damned. Probably because of our superior military power. But, what they don't see is that, you can't force the world to willingly work with us. You can't use military might to get them to continue to accept our debt instruments and hold onto the ones they have already bought. Abject stupidity and lust for power has finally destroyed America, it's all over but for the shouting.
There is still time to slow and possibly reverse the decay of our financial/economic leadership, but that will required a strong demonstration that we recognize what we've done and we issue a resounding repudiation of it. That requires Republican assistance we seem to be unlikely to get. , enjoy the America you have while you can, it's going to be all down hill from here if we can't show the world that we've come to our senses.
