I think someone needs to explain to Karl Rove what the definition of fascism is. Poor Karl wasn't much happier when he appeared on Sean Hannity's show on Fox this Thursday than he was when interrupted by some Occupy Baltimore protesters the other night during a speech he gave at Johns Hopkins University.
Karl Rove Flips Out At Protesters: ‘Who Gave You The Right To Occupy America?’:

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...
Penn State and the Culture of Rape
By Cliff Schecter
In May of 2009, as President Barack Obama prepared to replace retiring Justice David Souter on the Supreme Court, he let something terrible slip--something that could threaten the very fabric of our civilization! He would try and pick a new judge for our highest court that possessed "empathy," or the ability to identify “with people’s hopes and struggles” when making decisions that would intimately affect their lives.
In other words, slightly different than how Justice Clarence Thomas does it, which generally involves applying lessons learned from all-expenses covered, first-class corporate speaking gigs and serial viewing of the wacky antics of Long Dong Silver.

Is Pizza a Vegetable? Well, Congress Says So
Congress this week blocked USDA proposals requiring more tomato sauce on school lunch pizzas to justify its designation as a 'vegetable portion.' (photo: Linda Nylind/Guardian UK)
Lizz Winstead, Guardian UK
Winstead writes: "I knew big Pharma and the NRA had powerful lobbies, but apparently, the frozen food industry's 'partially hydrogenated, tomato-ish sauce-coated, food-like cardboard substance' lobby is more influential than I had initially realised. And these big food giants have done wonders convincing us all fresh produce is insurmountably inconvenient and, like lemmings, we go along with it, buying pre-packaged versions of these clearly inedible options."

Charles M. Blow | Decline of American Exceptionalism
Reagan leaves the White House on the last day of his administration, 01/20/89. (photo: Bettmann/CORBIS)
Charles M. Blow, The New York Times
Blow begins: "Is America exceptional among nations? Are we, as a country and a people and a culture, set apart and better than others? Are we, indeed, the 'shining city upon a hill' that Ronald Reagan described? Are we 'chosen by God and commissioned by history to be a model to the world' as George W. Bush said?"

Organizer: 50,000 signatures collected to recall Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker
MADISON — A spokeswoman for the coalition working to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker says they have collected 50,000 signatures in 48 hours.
United Wisconsin spokeswoman Meagan Mahaffey told The Associated Press on Thursday that the numbers are slightly ahead of their expectations.
Recall organizers need to average 9,000 signatures a day to get the 540,000 needed to force a recall election of Walker. They want to go well above that number, however, in case some signatures are invalidated.
The recall drive began Tuesday and the deadline for returning the signatures is Jan. 17.
Mahaffey says more than 20,000 people have downloaded petitions from the group's website.
