One of the lawyers posted a video analysis on youtube has said that: The passing of a counterfeit bill is a summonable offense, which means that, unless the police believed that Floyd could not otherwise be compelled to appear in court, he should have been summonsed and released. There was no reason to order him out of his vehicle other than to ascertain whether or not there were more counterfeit bills in their possession, something that was not done at all.
Because very often counterfeit bills are tendered by people who have no idea that they are fake. The law is not interested in penalizing victims but in finding the source of the fake money. Obviously, the counterfeiter isn't going to be trying to pass fake bills 1,2, or 3 times per day because that wouldn't even cover their expenses. Thus the mere offering of a single bill, without being in possession of more, is a sign that the holder is a victim not a criminal of interest. Floyd should have been searched, summonsed, and let go.
Police appear to believe that they can treat Blacks however they chose to, without any fear of consequences. Hardly a wonder that they go berserk when their orders aren't promptly followed or when rights are asserted. That has got to change. Police must be made to realize that they must respect the rights of all they encounter and not conclude that there are citizens who deserve no respect at all.
