China: Power and Prosperity -- Watch the full documentary

You probably want to learn to speak and read Chinese.  1500 years ago, China sent out a 1,000 ship expedition to explore and conquer the world, their technology was so advanced they, very likely, would have succeeded, but Confucius called them back because he considered Europeans to be savages/animals unworthy of any attention.  This time, however, they are using sophisticated financial techniques and financial instruments to gently take control of the world.  Trumps abject stupidity, and the system that allowed him to succeed, cannot be relied upon to resist an intelligent assault with a long term horizon.  Our intelligence sectors and our court system have been severely compromised, it is doubtful that we're going to get the best decisions of the kind that have preserved faith and trust in our institutions. Over time this will cause terrific failures. My advice is Mandarin.

Trump has ruined America's reputation as a leader in and for human rights.  This has greatly increased public appreciation for dictatorships of many stripes.  People pushing for human rights are largely on their own now, even as they hope that American leadership in this area might somehow, someday be restored.  But, the world cannot wait for this to happen, there are too many things that must be done right away.  Thus the world is moving on.  Oil producing countries are unlikely to return to complete reliance on oil sales to fill their coffers,  thus they will be looking for technology to help fill the gap.  China, like Russia are willing providers of sophisticated technology, but they can both be expected to exact a price higher than mere financial remunerations.  Meanwhile Trump has chased much of our expertise out of government,  leaving us exposed to the games the world is capable of playing.  So, while Republicans like McConnell are interested in appointing judges who are unqualified to do anything but tow the party line, the rest of what the nation is made of gets trashed.  Soon how judges rule will be the least of our worries.
