Trump, Supporters Not Willing To Risk 2024 Outcome With A Fair Election

Sound like we're done here!  Unless something changes we're going to become a dictatorship in just the next few years.  See all those law books on the shelves behind legal commentators and such?  They'll all become useless once the Republicans take power next year.  From there it's all downhill we will never get back to where we were.

The scheme is a simple one, fix things so that the opposition party cannot ever win a majority in either house in congress.  This is done by "fixing' the voting rules.  Once this is done, the party in power cannot be removed and therefore cannot be held accountable.  The courts are not a problem since the party in power can easily appoint more favorable judges (usually very compliant because they are not competent judges).  For the first few months or years, the government seems to be unchanged, civil rights only slightly erode but they erode slowly at first.  After an election or two the party in power feels certain they cannot be held to account for whatever they do, they begin to change laws in earnest.

Of course, many of these changes cause protests to start and that's when the true nature of the new beast emerges.  To suppress the protests arrests and other actions must be taken that incite even more desperate actions.  Armed protests cannot be allowed so gun rights must be reversed.  Nor is it likely that all protests will be by Democrats out of power, the new power party will be an equal opportunity offender.  My guess is that Republicans will be the first to be incited to violent protest.  They will then realize that there is no effective opposition party to appeal to.

Finally, as time goes by and the party in power becomes more assured of its unaccountability, ever more egregious actions are taken.  Since powers will be shared with people, not based on their qualifications, but upon their loyalty to the party, terrible mistakes will be made wholesale.  The most sensitive professions will be first to sink into the abyss.  The rights and privileges the public once took for granted will be gone and lawyers will be unable to rely upon statute or precedent but only upon supplicants and obsequiousness to state.  Our economy will shrink wildly as kleptocrats take, take, take destroying entire industries.

If Republicans win control of the House and Senate in 2022 the future of the nation is very, very bleak indeed.
