Ears are cartilage and with minimal blood supply they take longer to heal
than flesh wounds, also missing part of an ear take months to recover if
they recover at all. But supersonic rounds passing a flesh target at
close to Mach 5 has a terribly powerful cavitation wake that... well
look at the video posted below and you'll see that a close miss or a direct
hit on an ear is not going to heal in just a few weeks.
