A man in the street can hear words or phrases that he doesn't understand and
simply go about his business, but an elected official cannot simply go about
his business when hearing words or phrases he doesn't understand, he must
not remain blissfully ignorant or try to cover up that ignorance with stupidity.
He needs to crack open a dictionary or thesaurus/encyclopedia or ask his
staff to provide the answer. Otherwise he risks being seen as careless and
out of touch with current events and that's a terrible mantle for an elected official
to have to wear.
