Putin is dreaming of some fantasy view of 20th century Russia that never existed at all, but he is a believer in imposing his will on others for the benefit of no one but himself. He is foolishly squandering the peace of the world and the status of Russia. It will take years for Russia to recover regardless of how his war turns out.
