The Jan. 6 insurrection, 1 year later | PBS NewsHour presents

Apparently, we didn't take Trump seriously enough when he told the Proud Boys to "Stand back and Stand by!"  He really meant for them to stand by because he was counting on them to support his efforts in the event the vote should go against him.  He believed, probably from discussions in secret with Putin, that elections could be easily compromised if he had people to fight in his name.  Putin had seen enough fixed votes and he could tell Trump how it could be done.  I don't see another place where Trump could have gotten so much instruction about what to do and what to avoid saying.  The things Trump did and said during his presidency should be taken, not as jests, not to be taken lightly, but as deadly serious matters. Including Trumps secret meetings with Putin where he could learn many things about trashing a democracy to hold onto power.
