There has to be a serious penalty for people who are officials and act falsely under color of their authority. It's one thing for an average lay citizen to tell lies to the public, it is yet another thing for an official to do so. The former president's lies were made under the color of his authority a thing that gives them special forces that would otherwise not have attached.
