The Bush era shows us, in clear and unmistakable form what happens when the power of the state is used to push a pile of lies in the style of 1984. For example, 911 sets science aside by labeling anyone who tries to apply it as a "conspiracy theorist", a nonsensical pejorative since theories are made to be tested as a first step in the scientific method.
