It's the old adage: "Be careful what you wish for!"
America doesn't have the economic, military, and political might
needed to deal with an uncooperative world. What we did have
was the power to make life very difficult for any individual state
actor, and that translated into America being seen as the good guy.
The guy to have around for its calming effect and that went a long
way towards bringing opposing factions to "the table" rather than
forcing them into the streets.
The open corruption has destroyed that "soft power." Worse is that
Netanyahu's push to use the U.S. military to secure its position in
The Middle East has destroyed America's soft power, and that in turn
threatens the future of Israel. It's a game of "what goes around
comes around," and Netanyahu sent around the hubris that will
destroy his support over time.
