When a star fuses iron and gravity wins out causing it to collapse
I would speculate that the subsequent rebound and energy release
is probably due to anti-matter being made due to the extraordinary
densities present. After the big bang matter and anti-matter were
created, I'd guess, as a result of the energy density present. So
perhaps at the core of a collapsing super giant star pretty nearly
the same conditions might exist, the huge amounts of anti-matter
being created and annihilating would explain the rebound and
massive energy release. Try to imagine a solar mass of anti-matter
annihilating with matter and you get the idea of what I'm thinking
about.
