Republicans have learned, over the years, that the opinions of the majority need not be paid attention to and that they can take power with only a minority of voters. So, get over the notion that the majority rules in America, and although Republican candidates will mouth empty words to placate and molify their opponents, once in power Republicans have no need of anyone's opinions, ideas or understandings, all that matters is what they want and they're in office/power because they managed to conceal their true intentions from the largely uninformed public.
