Aha, I knew something was terribly wrong with Russia, Putin didn't realize that his corruption was breeding corruption. His forces were being mismanaged because there was no ideological basis to imbue the troops with the will to perform. Instead, as the generals watched the kleptocracy progress they sought to become kleptocratic themselves, which means that the troops down the line suffered, low morale, low and missed pay, heavy fines (due to theft), and general mismanagement which causes not only low morale and pervasive carelessness. This is something like what we saw in Afghanistan where a "paycheck" army and corruption made it impossible for anyone to believe in what they were doing besides just going along to get along. Putin is in serious danger of losing his power and his office because when you have to hire mercenaries to do your military bidding you simply don't have anything to fall back on. Eventually, the mercenaries turn on their employers. Remember what happened to Rome?
