Things are opening up because illnesses, infections, and deaths are way down. They are down because of the people who have gotten vaccinated, if it was left to those who refuse to get the vaccine we would still be forced to mask up, distance, and stay closed. The idea is that if you want to stay alive you do whatever it takes to avoid getting infected. Worse is that while deaths are down we have no idea of how many people are suffering the lesser effects of having been infected.
