Remember, people are over a year without pay, their expenses (rent, mortgage, etc) are still accruing. If they are getting more money from UI, they may require that money to catch up. There are also people who were evicted despite the moratoriums because landlords learned ways to avoid eviction prohibitions. So, it's not all about people not wanting to work, they may simply be unable to risk returning to their lower-paying jobs and risk the losses that could entail. If you've been foreclosed or evicted your life has been turned upside down and you may be mentally or situationally unfit to resume work right away. Also, there are covid victims who may now have special needs, etc., that may make returning to work problematic.
Let's hope your black child doesn't run into a "George Zimmerman", where it is claimed that any black child could be armed with a sidewalk as justification for a self defense claim.
