Jeffrey Toobin on impeachment trial: Trump is winning here
January 25, in New York and we haven't seen a single ice cicle, it rained all through the winter. We had one small coating of snow about half an inch and that melted out in less than a day. But hey, no global warming, eh?

Oh well, this won't be the first democracy to lose out to dictatorship. Hope these Republicans enjoy the ride as dictatorships can be extremely mercurial, taciturn and otherwise unpredictable. I, sincerely doubt, our economy will be as robust under such a form of government, for sure science and scholarship will suffer greatly. I think Trump's first move would be to take direction from Putin, which means a rapidly shrinking economy as the Kleptocracy takes hold. Many wealthy people will probably have their wealth taken away, not much they can do about that. Nor would holding public office be any guard against attainder. Public officials and Judges will become mere rubber stamps of the dictator and/or his appointee's. I'd expect most of them to come from Russia as they would have Putin's blessing and Trump is expected to honor that. GOP will have finished itself off, the Nazi's will feel Putin's hot breath and Evangelicals will regret losing their religious freedom as well as our freedom of speech and privacy. Nice work Mitch!

Going to court is merely a delaying tactic because Congress has the right, the power and the duty under the Constitution to be a check and balance against the Executive. Congress would not be an effective check or balance if they had to wait for court rulings while the President does not. Because that would make it impossible for the Congress to act as an equal to the executive. As we can see, court challenges are making it well neigh impossible for the Congress to obtain what it needs to oversee the executive. If this is allowed we have a dictatorship right now.

Trump hears how much money bank robbers get, he gets a brilliant idea: "Let's pass a law that requires police to rob banks so we can pass bigger tax cuts for the rich!" He is, without a doubt the most pathetic excuse of a man we've ever seen, too bad he also holds the highest office of the land, that says a lot about what America has allowed itself to become. The polls show that it can't be entirely blamed on Putin. We've got a whole lot of people who simply do not know or care about what makes America work.

Hopefully, when and if Justice Roberts detects that a Senator is pledged to violate his/her oaths, that he will order them recused and let their fellow travelers try to rescue them with a vote to restore them. Republicans overrule Chief Justice rulings at great peril, since he is totally credible by comparison and a move to override will be seen as an attempt to avoid a fair trial.
