Republicans started out saying that the accusations could not be proved. they said that if they could be proved that would be another story. Then the proof began to show up, they denied that it was conclusive enough. Then when the proof became conclusive enough they decided it wasn't a crime. To keep the matter from even wider exposure they decided to hold a dismissal and call it a trial. To get their way they had to ignore the Constitutional requirement that a "TRIAL" be held and instead supplanted it with gobbledygook. A Kafkaesque version of a trial.
