The city is in the midst of a murder-free streak that snapped the 'modern-day' record at midnight Thursday. The last murder the NYPD had to investigate was on Super Bowl Sunday. City officials praised the efforts of police, although cold and snow are often causes of dips in crime.

Police and city officials didn’t immediately credit Officers Cold and Snow — often the causes of dips in crime. They were just pleased by the lull in homicides since Feb. 1.
“This extraordinary streak of safety over the past several days is testament to the hard work of the men and women of the NYPD, and further evidence that New York City is the safest big city in America,” Mayor de Blasio said. “It’s also proof we can bring police and the community closer together and keep crime down in our neighborhoods.” READ MORE
