The point is that with the whole world watching us spouting rhetoric about "rule of law" we prove once again, after Nixon, that while we can jail a hungry man for life for stealing a loaf of bread, We cannot, in reality, enforce our laws equitably. Don't bother to ask why the world takes a cynical view of America that grows worse every day.
