If we can't trust the government to let us know what we are eating, why do we need the FDA? Eating food is not supposed to be a crap shoot, where we have to wait years to find out if what we were eating was safe. Remember aspertain and all those other additives that had to be pulled off the market after several years of sales to the public? The idea of having an FDA is so that we could decide for ourselves what risk we are , willing to take with our health. Now the FDA is becoming a mere con job, telling us everything is okay when they haven't a clue.

One cannot help but wonder if the smaller government and deregulation planks in a political party platform, may have had anything to do or contribute in these disasters. Could the regulators have shed their experts and experienced people and/or been otherwise impacted in ways too subtle to be noticed very soon?

I think Nadler is setting these attorney's up for charges of obstructing government administration or processes. Their objections are without any legal basis, as such they are merely interfering with Congressional oversight processes.
On the other hand, if I make a joke about people robbing a bank and giving me the money, I don't take a meeting with the bank robbers, either before, during or after the bank has been robbed. So, after Trump made his little joke, his people race to take a meeting with the Russians, on the basis that they have some dirt on Hillary they want to hand over. Some joke eh? Oh yeah, Bonnie and Clyde were only joking, eh?

Now we know what Trump will do if he loses the election. He will claim that he actually won and that the election board was partisan and the electoral college was corrupt and actually voted for him. He will declare martial law and refuse to leave office while trying to battle it out in court. In short, he will have to be dragged, kicking and screaming from office.

I guess Trump is freaked out because this threatens his dreams of Trump Tower Moscow, funded by Russia. Of course, he isn't going to keep American secrets from Putin, he has already turned over U.S. intelligence and he'll probably do it again. Meanwhile there's no telling what Barr will declassify and release to the public, so the entire intelligence world is on edge and it's very difficult to trust America under these circumstances.

President Donald Trump's Loyalty Uncertain Among Some National Security ...
When Republicans heard Trump remark "Russia if you're listening..." those with the knowledge of the law would have rushed, en mass, to flood the channel with advice about the law. Because a Trump win was in the interest of the entire Republican party, all of it's energies and knowledge would have been focused on keeping his campaign on track. That's the way campaigns work, anyone who has ever worked on a campaign knows that there are more people interested and invested in the win, such that advice against any pitfall will come in a flood from all sides and levels. There is no way Trump and the campaign could not have known that what they were doing with the Russians was illegal, which is why they all lied about it. They felt certain that someone would have discovered the advice they had been receiving.

Pelosi is not saying these facts are not enough, what she's saying is that we should not embark on a dangerous mission before we have prepared the battlefield properly. Impeachment is not a legal device,A it is a political affair. As a legal device facts would be enough. As a political affair, the parties must be persuaded that it is in their best interest to act. Thus, if you move ineffectively, you not only lose the affair but you may also undo yourselves, since your failure to accomplish your objective can be seriously used against you. With this President that would only make matters even worse. We cannot survive anther Trump term.

America has been very seriously damaged. The Republicans have done nothing to help restore our system of checks and balances, apparently thinking they could get their own way, and the rest of the world be damned. Probably because of our superior military power. But, what they don't see is that, you can't force the world to willingly work with us. You can't use military might to get them to continue to accept our debt instruments and hold onto the ones they have already bought. Abject stupidity and lust for power has finally destroyed America, it's all over but for the shouting.
There is still time to slow and possibly reverse the decay of our financial/economic leadership, but that will required a strong demonstration that we recognize what we've done and we issue a resounding repudiation of it. That requires Republican assistance we seem to be unlikely to get. , enjoy the America you have while you can, it's going to be all down hill from here if we can't show the world that we've come to our senses.
There is still time to slow and possibly reverse the decay of our financial/economic leadership, but that will required a strong demonstration that we recognize what we've done and we issue a resounding repudiation of it.
